Our Story

Forty Loaves and a Folding Table

How a weekend farmers-market stall became the neighborhood’s favorite reason to get up early.

2019 — The Stall

It Started With Sourdough

Our founder spent two years feeding a starter named Clementine before ever selling a loaf. The first market day, forty country loaves sold out in fifty-five minutes. The second week, people brought folding chairs and got in line before the van was unpacked.

A year of sold-out Saturdays later, the corner shop on Meridian Avenue came up for lease — sunlit, seventy years old, and exactly big enough for one oven and a very good espresso machine.

What We Believe

Three Rules of The Crumb

Small Batch, No Exceptions

Forty-odd bakes a day, made by hand, sold the same morning. When the case is empty, we’re done —
and we’d rather sell out than bake ahead.

Ingredients With First Names

Flour milled in-house, butter from a dairy we visit, eggs from a farm twenty minutes out. If we can’t name where it came from, it doesn’t go in the dough.

Everyone Gets a Good Morning

The line moves fast, the coffee’s hot, and the person at the register knows the regulars by order. That part was never a strategy —
it’s just the neighborhood.

The Shop Today

Still Small. On Purpose.

We’ve been offered bigger spaces, second locations, and a wholesale contract that would have tripled the ovens. We said no to all of it. The Gilded Crumb works because one baker still touches every loaf.

Come early, order the croissant, and stay for a second espresso. That’s the whole business plan.
